Program Summary

Animal Health & Production is a multidisciplinary course that focuses on the management, care, and well-being of animals, particularly in agricultural and veterinary settings. It combines aspects of animal biology, nutrition, genetics, disease control, and farm management to ensure optimal animal welfare and productivity. The course covers the principles of animal breeding and reproduction, emphasizing genetic improvement and sustainable livestock production. It also explores disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, including the role of veterinary medicine in maintaining healthy animal populations.

Students learn about animal physiology and behavior, enabling them to understand how different species respond to their environment and management practices. Nutrition is a key component, as the course examines how dietary requirements vary among animals and how proper feeding strategies enhance growth and production efficiency. Additionally, it includes practical aspects such as livestock housing, waste management, and ethical considerations in animal husbandry.

Graduates of this course can work in veterinary services, livestock farming, animal research, or agribusiness. They play a crucial role in food security, ensuring that animal products such as meat, milk, and eggs are produced safely and sustainably. The course also contributes to public health by addressing zoonotic diseases, which are illnesses transmitted between animals and humans. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, Animal Health & Production prepares students to support the livestock industry while promoting animal welfare and sustainable agricultural practices.
