Program Summary

Public Administration as a course focuses on the study of government policies, institutions, and processes that shape public services and governance. It explores how public organizations operate, how policies are formulated and implemented, and how government decisions affect society. The course covers a range of topics, including administrative theories, public policy analysis, organizational behavior, human resource management, budgeting, and ethics in governance. It also examines the role of bureaucracy, leadership, and decision-making in the public sector. Public Administration blends theoretical concepts with practical applications, preparing students for careers in government agencies, non-profit organizations, and international institutions. The course emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and leadership skills necessary for managing public affairs effectively. Requirements

a. UTME REQUIREMENTS ; To be admitted, candidate shall in addition to the entry requirements of the University of Nigeria be required to have a credit in English language and in Mathematics at the General Certificate of Education (O’ Level) Examination or the equivalent. Candidates are also required to have credit in Government or History as a pre-requisite for admission. b. Three-year programme (Direct Entry): Candidates for direct entry should possess one of the following qualifications: i. General Certificate of Education (A/L) passes or the equivalent in any of the following subjects: Government, History, Economics, Business Management, Accounting and geography. ii. Ordinary National Diploma in the relevant discipline or its equivalent at merit level. iii. Diploma in Public Administration of the university of Nigeria (obtained with effect from 1995/96 academic year) or Higher National Diploma of recognized institutions with a minimum of merit/lower credit level pass.
