Program Summary

English and literary studies is a course that explores the English language, literature, and critical analysis of texts from different periods and cultures. It involves the study of various literary genres, including poetry, drama, fiction, and non-fiction, as well as the historical and cultural contexts that shape them. The course enhances students' understanding of language structure, communication, and creative expression while developing critical thinking, analytical, and interpretive skills.

Students engage with classical and contemporary works, examining themes, styles, and literary techniques used by writers across different eras. The course also introduces literary theories and criticism, allowing students to analyze texts from different perspectives, such as feminism, postcolonialism, and structuralism. In addition to literature, some programs incorporate aspects of linguistics, rhetoric, and media studies, broadening the scope of language analysis.

English and literary studies prepare students for careers in education, publishing, journalism, creative writing, and other fields that require strong communication and analytical skills. The course fosters an appreciation for literature’s role in shaping society and encourages students to become thoughtful and articulate individuals with a deep understanding of human experiences as expressed through language.
