Program Summary

Haematology is a branch of medicine and biomedical science that focuses on the study of blood, blood-forming organs, and related disorders. It covers a wide range of topics, including the composition and function of blood cells, haemostasis, immunohaematology, and the diagnosis and treatment of blood diseases. The course integrates theoretical knowledge with practical applications, involving laboratory techniques for analysing blood samples, identifying abnormalities, and understanding disease mechanisms. It also explores various blood disorders such as anaemia, leukaemia, haemophilia, and clotting disorders, along with their management and treatment options. Students learn about the role of the bone marrow, spleen, and lymphatic system in maintaining blood health. Advanced topics may include transfusion medicine, bone marrow transplantation, and the use of modern technologies in haematological diagnosis. The course is essential for those pursuing careers in medical laboratory science, pathology, haematology research, or clinical practice. It combines elements of biology, chemistry, and medicine to provide a comprehensive understanding of blood-related conditions and their impact on overall health.
