Agricultural Extension and Rural Development is a multidisciplinary course that focuses on improving agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods through education, communication, and technology transfer. It explores the principles and methods of disseminating agricultural innovations, helping farmers adopt modern techniques to enhance food production and sustainability. The course covers areas such as rural sociology, agricultural economics, communication strategies, and policy development, ensuring that extension agents can effectively interact with farming communities.  

Students learn how to assess rural needs, design and implement extension programs, and evaluate their impact on agricultural and rural development. The course emphasizes participatory approaches, encouraging collaboration between farmers, researchers, and policymakers. Topics such as climate-smart agriculture, sustainable resource management, and agribusiness development are also integrated to equip learners with practical solutions to rural challenges.  

Through fieldwork, case studies, and research projects, students gain hands-on experience in working with rural populations, understanding their socio-economic conditions, and addressing barriers to agricultural advancement. The course prepares graduates for careers in government agencies, non-governmental organizations, research institutions, and agribusiness firms, where they contribute to food security, poverty alleviation, and rural transformation.
