Program Summary
The programme Library and Information Science is dynamic and multifaceted. It is dedicated to identifying; organizing, disseminating and encouraging the use of records of human culture-past and present-to broadly reflect and actively respond to the needs of the society. This programme recognizes the value of information as vital resources for the development of the individual, groups of persons and nations. It should inculcate in the graduate of the programme, the spirit of problem-solving through information provision in order to meet society’s information needs for a variety of purposes such as education, research, enlightenment and recreation. The programme should develop and train librarians in the mastery and understanding of techniques of establishing and managing libraries and information centers. Graduates of the Department’s BLS programme should be familiarized with the sensitized to the application of theories and concepts that are applicable to libraries. They should have an understanding of how information is accumulated, analyzed and disseminated. They should be able to promote and encourage and utilization for the advancement of knowledge and national development.
