Program Summary
English and Literary Studies is a course that explores the English language and its rich body of literature across different periods, regions, and genres. It combines the study of language, literature, and critical theory to develop students’ analytical, interpretive, and communication skills. Students engage with various literary texts—novels, plays, poetry, and non-fiction—from classical to contemporary works, examining themes, historical contexts, and literary techniques. The course also includes the analysis of how literature reflects and shapes social, political, and cultural issues. In addition to literature, the program often covers aspects of linguistics, writing, rhetoric, and sometimes media studies, preparing students for careers in education, writing, publishing, media, and other fields where strong language and analytical skills are essential.
