Program Summary

Public Law as a course explores the legal framework governing the relationship between the state, its institutions, and individuals. It covers the principles, structures, and functions of government, including constitutional, administrative, and criminal law. Students learn about the separation of powers, the rule of law, and fundamental rights, as well as how public authorities exercise power and are held accountable. The course examines the role of courts in reviewing governmental actions, the protection of civil liberties, and the mechanisms for ensuring good governance. Through case studies, legal analysis, and theoretical perspectives, students develop an understanding of how law shapes public policy and societal organization. The course also explores contemporary issues such as human rights, judicial independence, and the impact of legal reforms on governance. 

Requirements

UTME REQUIREMENTS ; Five ‘O’ Level Credit passes which must include English Language, Literature in English, and any other three Arts or Social Science Subjects. JAMB Subjects: Use of English, Literature in English and any other two Arts or Social Science subjects. DIRECT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS ; (1) Two ‘A-Level/IJMB Passes in English Literature and other Arts or Social Science subjects. (2.) ABU Diploma in Law with at least MERIT Grade. (3.) ABU Diploma in Public Law with at least Merit Grade.
